Ubuntu Touch OTA-8 Bringing New SMS, Telephony Apps

If you were hoping to get a better base communications apps in the Ubuntu Touch OTA-8, you are in luck. It has been revealed by developers, Canonical Ltd., that the over the air update is going to bring you better SMS and telephony apps.

?ukasz Zemczak aka ‘sil2100’ of Canonical provided an update on the new developments that have been made to the Ubuntu Touch OTA-8 prior to its launch. Here’s an excerpt from what he had to say:

Today was a busy landing day with multiple new packages making their way to the overlay PPA. Just to mention a few of them, we had a new UITK, address-book, telepathy-ofono (for playing ringtone on both speaker and headphones), messaging-app, history-service and ubuntu-push. We also had a new versions of the pay packages that add the support for in-app-purchases.

The Ubuntu Touch OTA-8 has been in development for a while now and a number of new updates and improvements have been listed by the developers before this. We are expecting this update to help grow the platforms that are using it.

Currently Ubuntu Touch is working on Nexus 4, BQ Aquaris e4.5, BQ E5 HD, and Meizu MX 4 and it is being speculated that OnePlus One and Nexus 5 will get it soon.

It is expected that the Ubuntu Touch OTA-8 will go live on November 18.
