Aussies eye new blood

Usman-Khawaja111USMAN Khawaja has taken a giant step towards becoming Australia’s first Test cricketer of Muslim faith by gaining selection in Australia’s Ashes squad this morning.

Australia today surprisingly unveiled a 17-man Ashes squad at a rain-affected gala event at Circular Quay.

Debate the squad with national selector Greg Chappell here from noon AEDST Tuesday.

Clearly injuries and lack of form leave the selectors uncertain about the make-up of their final team for the first Test at the Gabba on 25 November.

Signaling a generational change, NSW duo Khawaja and Steven Smith were both named.

However, Phillip Hughes was left out, sending the young NSW star a clear message that he needs to correct his technical flaws.

Nathan Haurtiz’s spot remains under pressure, with Xavier Doherty and Smith battling for the spinners spot.
