Wheelchair-bound woman thrown to the ground and sexually assaulted at Sydney shopping centre: police

A wheelchair-bound woman was thrown to the ground and sexually assaulted near a Sydney shopping centre, police say. The woman, 39, was leaving the Ryde shopping centre when she was approached by four men on Devlin Street, about 8.30pm on August 12. Police allege one of the group wheeled her up a ramp and into a car park, where she was lifted from her wheelchair and thrown to the ground. She was then allegedly struck to the head and sexually assaulted.

The group fled when a man and a woman came to her assistance. They then drove her home. Police want to speak to the couple, who are described as being of Indian appearance. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
